Trunk or Treat

Halloween is this week. Our Halloween revolves around Trunk or Treat. It was our first activity whenwe moved into our ward six years ago on Halloween. It skewed our judgment of our new ward members a little. When the first time you are introduced to someone and they are wearing an ape suit it makes you wonder. Since that first one I have been directly involved, serving food, organizing. This year I get to sit back and enjoy. Our is a true Trunk or Treat, we park the cars in the parking lot, we eat chili and hot dogs in the parking lot, and we have many, many neighborhood friends not of our faith. It is great. We have created a one page layout to celebrate Trunk or Treat, you can find it here. As you can tell we have not mastered the computer stitching technique for 12x12 layouts. Rest assured the actual layout does not have a line running down the middle of it.

Handmade Christmas

I am probably one of those people you hate. I have the Christmas music out in June. It is also rather shocking that the Christmas movies are packed away since the Halloween one's have been out since July. Don't you love fall? All that it brings...including football (we are getting ready to put some new kit on line at the store). I love fall for fall, but I also love fall because it means the holidays are around the corner.

 Even if you are not like me...it may be time to consider a handmade Christmas.  With the economy the way it is a handmade Christmas makes sense. You can make it budget friendly. However it usually take more time, and a little more planning.

 

If you are alsolike me you like to make things in bulk. Five of the same mini album, one for you and each of your siblings and parents. If you make items in bulk you also buy in bulk. We just wanted to let you know we understand that concept (because it also applies to Young Women activities, Souper Saturdays, and primary). If you need more than an item listed on line let us know. We are happy to special order. Some of our vendors will even ship items directly to you. Some of our vendors are a little slow, but we will be upfront and honest, and get you the things you need in time.

October is Family History Month

My Grandparents both passed away in the last year. It has been a roller coaster of gratitude and grief. One blessing however is that I inherited (for a short time) the family genealogy. My maternal great grandmother kept a journal for some 20 years, my Grandpa wrote faithfully while he served on his two missions with my Grandma, and there are pictures!! I have heard many stories, but now with the material in my hand I am so excited to learn more about my ancestors. My kids....not so interested. That is why we love the latest line at LDSscrap, Stories By Me and their Family Tree Magnetic Board. It is a perfect way for me to share a little family history. They come in two sizes and several different styles. It has helped my kids learn names and also who their great great grandma is.

General Conference

Fall seems to be the favorite season here at LDSscrap. The change of season, cooler weather and anticipation of things to come. One thing I anticipate each fall is General Cconference. It is a time to center and refocus before the busy holidays. This year it also seemed to provide much relief and support. It seemed that everyone talked about being steady and moving forward. In times like these I am sure some of us want to hide in our beds, to fearful to see what the next day will bring. However the gospel is not a gospel of fear but a gospel of hope. Our burdens will still be great, but they can be lifted and seem light.

I love to take notes during General Conference. We created our first Kit of the Month based around that concept. Here is a peek, we are still working on our computer stitching technique.
