Remember that conference talk from Elder Oaks a couple of years ago? I really needed to apply that in my life the last couple of weeks. General Conference is my favorite time of year, especially the fall one. It is a great time to cozy up with family, eat home cooked food and recharge my batteries by listening to the Prophets. This year however was nothing like that. Instead it was full of dance recitals, extended family dinners, canning jam, and birthday parties. When it was all said in done I maybe watched/listened to half a session. By the time we came home Sunday night I was so depressed and as I told my husband my worries his response was good, better, best. Those spouses have such great insight some times.
I have been thinking about that talk a lot, and also the holidays. I love the holidays!! However sometimes I am so busy doing everything, that I feel like I do not get the important things done. So this year I have made a goal to determine what is the "best" way to spend my time. What traditions are meaningless and what others bring my family closer to each other and the Lord. How do I find balance between the fun and the sacred.
I know most of us make holiday goals..."I am not going to eat so much this year, I will not steal the kids candy, I will not spend so much money, I will put up the tree before Christmas Eve."
Our challenge to you is two fold this time. Journal or scrapbook your holiday goals. Take a few moments to determine what is good, better, and best for the holidays.
